Its already a week since Saddam was put to death. I still couldn't digest the video I have seen on the news.
A week ago, I got up early around 7:30am on Saturday morning because my son who is 6months old didn't want to sleep. Obviously he doesn't know that its Saturday and gotta to sleep till 10am. So I gotta get up to give him company so my wife can sleep for some more. I put the TV on and happen to watch the 8 am SUN TV news running at that time. I was really surprised to see that SADDAM Hussein was hanged before dawn in IRAQ.
Immediately question popped in my mind. Why are they doing it ? Whats the hurry ? Are they trying to avoid any big blows and doing it without giving any notice to the world ?!
There was lot of contradicting opinions floating around his death sentence. Lot of middle eastern countries opposed his death sentence wanted to give him second chance. Everybody deserves a second chance and especially an EX-President of a Country deserves it. There is really some pressure from US to get this done quickly before new year comes along. They want to close a chapter and open a new one in the coming new year. What it may be, that's really not acceptable by any person who been tracking the IRAQ war except some Americans.
I also saw that some of our high government officials opposed the judgement including TamilNadu's Chief Minister Kalaignar. If I can remember its words exactly, I like to quote it but I don't. But here is the essence, "Life is like a book and we get the second chance to correct wrongly printed pages and publish the revised copy. Similarly, everybody should be given second chance by letting them live and realize their past. If we encourage death sentence, its like tearing the pages and destroying the history." Its really a good analogy.
Anyways, finally getting to point. By showing our opposition, Are we really against IRAQ War ? That's means are we against USA IRAQ policies and oppose them. We signed up a Nuclear treaty with US to get nuclear support for our development and starting to have good relation with them. Does that in stake if we continue to show our opposition in IRAQ War ?!
If we are against Saddam's sentencing, does that means we are against IRAN which really wanted Saddam to go away. Does our relationship with IRAN going to be at stake, actually it was when we signed up Nuclear treaty with USA?
WHAT EXACTLY IS INDIA'S STAND IN IRAQ WAR ?!!?!? NOBODY KNOWS.
Then, why all this uncertain questions ?! Its all because we Indians showed our opposition against Saddam's death sentence and hanging in different ways like every other country. Its not because we like Saddam or against IRAQ WAR, its truly because we are Human. We think Humanly that's why we are praised by all as a true Democratic country with open culture and against Terrorism. Its our nature as Indians !!
